Conclusions
- To make sure that an application program runs, out of the box, without complications: package everything you need.
- Desktop users want to install or run an application with a single click on an icon or link. Period.
- Package into a single-file, one-click installable kit.
- For GUI desktop applications on Linux, Windows and OSX, Cava Packager does (did) a great job.
- Especially when combined with Citrus Perl.
- Other packagers, e.g., PAR + pp, can do a good job as well, but they need external tools to produce a single-file, one click installable kit.
