Ever since its first release in 1987 Perl has played a significant rol in the area of system management tools, web site backend scripts and web applications.

For the last couple of decades desktop applications have gained importance, not just on Microsoft Windows platforms but also on Mac OSX, Android, and even on Linux.

However, Perl is almost totally absent in this important and still fast growing area.

Worse, Perl is nonexistent on Android and iOS.
