ACPI (short for "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface") is a
standard that defines power and configuration management interfaces
between an operating system and the BIOS. It is meant to supersede the
older APM standard (for power management) and provide a generic
interface for recognition and configuration of hardware devices. See
http://acpi.sourceforge.net/
for further information.
As a starting point, I downloaded the stock 2.6.10 kernel from www.kernel.org and the associated ACPI patches from http://acpi.sourceforge.net. There were no 'official' 2.6.10 patches yet, so I used the 2.6.10-rc3 kit. Recent kernels (2.6.16 or so) do not require ACPI patches (except for DSDT fixing). |
